Requirements
- The removal of indigenous vegetation on properties zoned rural or special rural (e.g. the larger lots in Canning Vale) requires Planning Approval.
- If you believe the land owner is clearing indigenous vegetation without approval, please proceed with a lodging a request below.
Removing trees from private property
- The City's Local Planning Policy LP.09 - Tree Retention and Planting addresses the protection of existing trees and the planting of new trees on development sites.
- Clause 6.2 of the policy sets out criteria against which existing trees are assessed for retention. The policy also requires developments to provide trees either by retention of existing trees or the planting of 'advanced trees' which have a minimum container size.
- Clause 6.8 of the policy specifies numbers of trees for different types of developments.
- This Policy allows the City to request the retention of existing trees or planting of new trees on private development sites.
- Additionally, properties zoned as Commercial and Rural/Special Rural require Planning approval to clear native vegetation/ trees.
